97-Year-Old Nazi War Criminal Arrested (20th July, 2012)

Police in Hungary have arrested the world's most wanted living Nazi, 97-year-old Laszlo Csatary. They charged him with war crimes related to the deaths of 15,700 Jews at the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. His capture comes over 60 years after the crimes took place. Nazi hunter Efraim Zuroff said people should not care about Csatary's age. "Don't look at [him] when he is old and frail," he said, "look at a man who when he was at the height of his powers, devoted them to killing [thousands of] people."

Mr Zuroff found Csatary in a suburb of Budapest late last year. The British tabloid newspaper "The Sun" sent a journalist to Hungary last week and published photos of the pensioner. Hungarian police then arrested him. Csatary was a police commander during WWII. He fled Europe after the war and lived in Canada with a new identity as an art dealer. He was sentenced to death for war crimes in 1948. His real identity was discovered in 1997 and he left Canada. His whereabouts had been a mystery for 15 years.
