Royal nurse kills herself after prank call (9th December, 2012)

A 46-year-old nurse has killed herself after falling for a prank telephone call. Jacintha Saldanha, a mother of two, connected a telephone call to the nurse who was treating the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. The caller used a fake accent and said she was the British Queen. It was really a DJ called Mel Greg from an Australian radio station. Ms Saldanha believed it was the Queen and passed the call on to the Duchess' nurse, who gave details of her patient's condition.

Friends of Jacintha said she felt "very lonely and confused" after making the mistake of connecting the call. She knew it was her mistake. She said she felt sorry that she allowed a prank caller to find out private details of the Duchess of Cambridge. The radio's DJ has been taken off her show. The Sydney radio station, called 2Day FM, has received over 10,000 comments on its Facebook page. Posters are angry at the DJ and the radio station. Some people said the DJ has blood on her hands. Ms Greg is now receiving counseling.
